Parkers Chapel’s girls opened the golf season with a new lineup, consisting of just one returning player from last year’s state runner-up. The Lady Trojans overcame a lack of experience and won the 2A 6 District championship last week and will now set their sights on the 2A State Tournament at Glenwood on Tuesday.
“Our goal this season was to qualify for state as a team and they achieved that goal,” said PC coach Hillary Frisby. “If they continue to play as well as they did at conference they have a good chance of finishing strong at state.”
The Lady Trojans’ lineup includes junior Lorali Barnes, who won medalist last week. Bentlee Bates, Jade Stewart and Brilee Carelock round out the players.
Competing for a state title could be asking a lot for such a young squad. But winning the district championship perhaps wasn’t a safe bet at the beginning of the season, either.
“They have come a long way in a short period of time and I couldn’t be more proud of each and every one of them,” said Frisby.
