Smackover will not field a senior high cross country team this season. Coach Allie Banks hopes to lay a solid foundation for the program at the junior high level.
The junior girls will consist of seventh graders Serenity Beckwith, Brooklyn Landry and Aubrynn Killingsworth and ninth grader Kyndal McDonald. The junior boys team will include eighth grader Corbyn Beavers and freshman Jasper Galusha.
“I am excited about working with this group of kids who are the foundation of building a great cross country program. Their dedication and enthusiasm are crucial to our success, and together, we have the potential to create something special here at Smackover,” said Banks. “Our aim this year is to achieve success as a cross country team while also emphasizing the importance of individual performance. By balancing our collective goals with personal improvement, we can drive team achievements while supporting each runner's growth and development.”
The coach expects McDonald to be one of the team leaders.
“Kyndal McDonald had a successful season last year and has shown impressive dedication to her summer workouts. I’m eager to see her continue that momentum and have a standout season. Brooklyn Landry is new to the sport this year, but her commitment to training and her tenacity suggest she has a bright future ahead. I’m excited to see her progress and succeed this season.
“Jasper and Corbyn are the only returning male runners. Corbyn, a dual-sport athlete, is highly motivated and eager to improve his running. I believe this could be a breakout year for him. Though I’m still getting to know Jasper, his runner's build and potential are promising. I’m confident he has the ability to have a strong and successful season.”
Smackover will open its cross country season on Oct. 5 at the El Dorado Wildcat Invitational.
