In six races, El Dorado’s Zachary McMillon has won three with a pair of fourth place finishes in the Bob Gravett Invitational and the Lakeside Invitational.
In his other race, the senior finished 65th. Considering the Chile Pepper XC Festival in Fayetteville had 731 runners, that 65th place showing might be McMillon’s most impressive.
“The season has gone well so far,” said McMillon, who ran a season-best 16:20.90 at the Chile Pepper, which featured the top runners from the southwest United States.
“I enjoyed Chile Pepper. It gave me a lot of confidence being able to run with the top guys in our heat. The next couple of weeks I’m just going to try to get some good training in and finish my last high school cross country season off with a bang.”
The Wildcats will run in the Lake Hamilton Invitational on Saturday before finishing the season with the conference and state meets on Oct. 29th and Nov. 7th, respectively.
“Zach has been strong throughout this season. He had a great day at the Chile Pepper, really focusing on splits and being able to race some great dudes in the process,” said El Dorado coach John Koonce.
“He has had four meets this year where he was trying to push the pace to be the best that he can be and he has also had two meets this year where we used him as a pacer to help improve our team as a whole. It is now time to turn the page on the last three meets of the year: Lake Hamilton, conference, and state. The competition will be top notch at all three meets and I anticipate that he will finish strong.”
