El Dorado seniors Caden Meadows and Michael Moore will compete Wednesday in the 5A Boys State Golf Tournament at Hot Springs Country Club.
Meadows averaged an 81 in eight 18-hole events this season, including a season-best 73 at Pine Bluff Country Club.
“Caden started out the season as our one seed and had about a week at the number two position before reclaiming the top spot for the remainder of the season,” said El Dorado coach Chris Ezell. “He has had some of our best scores of the season and consistently been a score to count on playing against the other schools’ top players each event.”
Moore shot his best round at the conference tournament with a 76.
“Michael has been steadily progressing throughout the season,” Ezell said. “His pre-season qualifiers found himself in the fifth and last spot for varsity to start the season. But he has steadily worked his way up to the number two spot by the last couple of weeks of the season culminating in a 5A South All Conference performance.”
Ezell expects both players to compete for medalist and All-State honors.
“According to the rankings, our 5A classification has several of the top golfers in the state,” he said. “Lakeside's Willie Gordon, Benton's Paxton Lane, Elias Payne, LR Christian's Henry and Hogan O'Keefe, Searcy's Luke Killough, Mountain Home's Cody Cormican have all had outstanding scores throughout the season. The battle for the three overall spots will be intense.”
