Smackover’s Judson Wolfe looks to be close to the top of his game when he tees off Monday in the 3A Boys State Golf Championship at Cooper’s Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne.

As a sophomore, he shot 77 and was sixth in the state tournament last year.  Wolfe shot a season-best 77 at the district tournament, placing third a little over a week ago.

“I’m very excited to be back competing for the state tournament,” said Wolfe. “My game right now is pretty good. It could be a little better but it’s in a good spot to compete well at state.”

Wolfe carded his 77 at Lake DeGray. Earlier in the season, he shot 83 at Camden Country Club. Cooper’s Hawk will be a new experience for the junior.

“I haven’t played this course before but from what I’ve heard, I think it will fit me good,” he said. “I’m just going to have to hit fairways and limit big numbers on holes.”

Wolfe also plays football and is the kicker for the Buckaroos. He said his football teammates have been supportive this season.

Although most of Smackover’s matches this season were 9-holes, Wolfe has experience in 18-hole tournaments. He believes he’s prepared to have another run in state.

“I’m pretty happy with the way the season went,” he said. “There were a couple of tournaments that I wish I could have won though. Last week I shot a 77 and played pretty good. There definitely is some stuff that I learned from district that I need to improve on.”
