El Dorado boys, girls sweep Morrilton

El Dorado swept Morrilton in non-conference basketball action Monday night at Wildcat Arena. The Lady Wildcats won 48-43 before the Wildcats won the boys’ game 77-70.

El Dorado’s girls trailed 31-26 going into the fourth quarter and were down 41-35 with three minutes remaining. Damecia McDaniel had a steal and layup and then converted a three-point play before Amiria Jackson scored a putback bucket to give the Lady Wildcats a 42-41 advantage with 1:10 remaining.

Morrilton’s Samiya Robbins scored with 46 seconds left but Makhiya Tillis scored for the Lady Wildcats off an offensive rebound with 32 seconds left and drew the foul. Her three-point play gave El Dorado a two-point lead.

The Lady Devil Dogs missed a 3-pointer and Destin Lewis hit a free throw for El Dorado before McDaniel soared in to rebound the second attempt and scored to put the game away.

Denasjah Norman led the Lady Wildcats with 13 points. Zy McMurrian scored nine while McDaniel and Kennedi Flowers each scored seven.

Aubrey Stricklen led Morrilton with 11 and Robbins added 10.

In the boys game, El Dorado led 66-65 midway in the fourth quarter but outscored Morrilton 11-5 in the final 3:44 to pull away.

The Devil Dogs’ Isaiah Templeton scored inside to cut the deficit to one. The 6-4 junior poured in 36 points but was held scoreless over the final 3:51 of the game.

Donovan Mitchell scored on a drive and Isaiah Robinson hit a 3-pointer for the Wildcats. Kielyn Bunting scored for Morrilton but El Dorado shot 4-of-6 at the line down the stretch.

The Devil Dogs hit a 3-pointer with two minutes left to cut the margin to 72-70. But Brennan Powell grabbed an offensive board and put it back for El Dorado with 1:30 remaining.

The Wildcats held Morrilton scoreless over the final two minutes of play.

Robinson led El Dorado with 21 points. Corey Williams and Mitchell each scored 12 while Isaac Aaron and Powell added nine points apiece and Will Obiozo scored seven.

Templeton hit six 3-pointers for Morrilton and scored 16 points in the first half. Corey Clemons, Zay Hill and Bunting added eight points each.

El Dorado led 18-17 after one quarter and trailed 36-35 at the half. Morrilton carried a 54-53 lead into the fourth quarter.
