Camacho commits to Baton Rouge Community College

Smackover’s Emily Camacho announced this week she had committed to play softball at Baton Rouge Community College. As a junior, Camacho earned All-State honors, playing centerfield, shortstop and pitcher for the Lady Bucks.

‘I picked Baton Rouge Community College because of the amazing coaching staff and welcoming team members as well as the facilities, which provided everything a student-athlete could think of needing,” Camacho said via text. “I also picked it because Baton Rouge truly just felt like home.

“I had two other offers from colleges with awesome programs that were definitely tempting but they just weren’t Baton Rouge Community College, if that makes sense.”

The lefty said she’ll likely wait until after Christmas Break to sign. She batted .397 with 27 hits, 9 doubles, 30 runs scored and 25 stolen bases. She pitched 62.2 innings with 17 walks and 65 strikeouts and a 2.793 earned run average.

Camacho, who said she hopes to study psychology, played all over the field at Smackover and could do something similar in college.

“I was recruited for the outfield but offered as a dual position athlete in outfield and pitching so wherever Coach Mark needs me, I’m there.”

The Bears went 24-24 last season.
