White Hall sweeps El Dorado

El Dorado suffered a pair of losses Tuesday in the  5A South basketball opener against White Hall. The Lady Wildcats fell 72-46 in varsity girls before the Wildcats dropped a 64-44 decision in the varsity boys matchup.

El Dorado hosts Camden Fairview on Thursday.

In the girls’ game, White Hall (6-2) went on a 16-7 spurt in the second quarter, including an 8-0 run to build a 33-18 halftime advantage. The lead swelled to 52-33 going into the fourth quarter.

“I think we were just a little bit out of sync on defense in the first half,” said El Dorado coach Makara Frazier. “Offensively we took care of the ball, which is what we’ve been working on. We just didn’t get stops whenever we were not scoring. That’s hard to combat when you’re not getting as many buckets as you want and you’re also not stopping on defense. It’s hard to deal with.”

Kennedi Bowman scored 15 points for White Hall. Marenna Tucker tallied 13 points in the fourth quarter.

Amiria Jackson and Christian Dade each scored 10 for the Lady Wildcats. Damecia McDaniel and Devyn Shelton contributed nine and seven, respectively.

In the boys game, the Bulldogs jumped out to an 18-6 lead after one quarter and by halftime, led 31-11. The score was knotted at 4-4 three minutes into the game. White Hall outscored El Dorado 27-7 the rest of the half.

The margin was 47-25 going into the final period.

White Hall (5-4) was led by AJ McCray with 23 points. Jacoby Edwards and Brian Cal Jr. added 18 and 12, respectively.

Isaiah Robinson led the Wildcats with 17 points. El Dorado shot 8-of-19 at the free throw line.
