Area golfers start season strong

The golf season teed off last week with the Simmons Bank Wildcat Invitational at the Lions Club. El Dorado’s girls posted their first victory of the season on Thursday, shooting 300 to win at Bryant.

“Proud of the way the girls managed Hurricane,” said El Dorado coach Chris Ezell. “It has lots of sand, water and ob on the course. They managed to avoid a lot of those and came away with a close win.”

Daphny Chen shot 91 to finish as medalist runner-up on Thursday after opening the season with a 90 at the Lions Club on Monday.

Parkers Chapel’s Lorali Barnes shot 92 on Monday and then won medalist with a 48 over 9 holes on Wednesday against Junction City and Smackover.

The Lady Dragons won on Wednesday led by Karla Castillo (51), Valarie Kidwell (52) and Makayla Knight (53).

On the boys’ side, El Dorado’s Peyton Yarbrough posted the best score, shooting 77 at the Lions Club on Monday. The Wildcats’ Jay Reep shot 85 at Hurricane with Yarbrough and Caden Meadows each shooting 87.

Smackover’s Judson Wolfe shot 39 to earn medalist in Wednesday’s action. Parkers Chapel’s John Hall and Jaxon Waggoner both shot 42 along with Junction City’s Jaxon Temple.

Hall carded an 80 at the Simmons Bank Wildcat Invitational.

This week, Parkers Chapel will be busy playing Monday at the Lions Club against Spring Hill and Junction City, Tuesday against Crossett and Junction City at Prairie Country Club and Wednesday at Mystic Creek against Junction City and EHS JV.

Smackover hosts a match on Monday at Pine Hills against El Dorado’s JV, starting at 9 a.m.

Smackover and El Dorado will both play 18 holes Thursday at Camden Country Club.
