El Dorado under tornado watch

Area of tornado watch

Union County is under a tornado watch until 6 p.m. issued by the National Weather Service.

A tornado watch is different than a tornado warning. According to the NWS a tornado watch means the following: "Tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. Review and discuss your emergency plans and check supplies and your safe room. Be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued or you suspect a tornado is approaching. Acting early helps to save lives! Watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center for counties where tornadoes may occur. The watch area is typically large, covering numerous counties or even states."

A tornado warning has been issued for Northern Claiborne Parish in northwestern Louisiana until 11:30 a.m. That's the only active tornado warning in the area at the moment.

Southeastern Union County is currently under a severe weather storm warming until 12:15 p.m.
