Several teens were taken into custody Monday after El Dorado police responded to a report of shots fired near the El Dorado School District maintenance shop.
No injuries were reported in the mid-morning incident, and police said it did not appear as if anyone was being targeted in the alleged shooting.
Capt. Kevin Holt, public information officer for the El Dorado Police Department, said investigators were still sorting out the details, including exact charges, late Monday afternoon.
Holt said the teens, all under 18, would be referred to Union County Juvenile Court.
Officers were called at 10:39 a.m. in reference to shots fired in the area of South Park and Cedar, just north of the school district’s bus shop.
Holt said “a large number of teens fled” on foot when officers arrived on the scene, and after a brief foot chase, four teens were arrested.
A short time later, a fifth teenager at a another location was taken into custody in connection to the incident, he said.
“We identified the rest of them because we got a call about the same type of activity at that location about a week ago, and we didn’t find anything,” Holt said. “This time when they ran, we were able to find where they were hiding.”
He said officers did not recover any weapons from the scene.
When asked why the teems were not in school, Holt said the matter will be sorted out with juvenile authorities.
