An El Dorado man, Cordario Cortez Floyd, 23, was pronounced dead at the Medical Center of South Arkansas after El Dorado Police responded to 603 Bruster St. at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A caller reported that a person on the front porch of the residence had been shot, according to the police report and Kevin Holt, EPD public information officer.

Upon arrival, an officer noticed the victim, Floyd, over a chair with a gunshot wound to the head, according to the report.

At that time, Floyd was transported to the MCSA where he was pronounced deceased, according to Holt.

At the scene of the crime, officers later found that a second victim, Jaterrance Hamilton, 24, had also been transported to the MCSA by private vehicle.

According to the police report, Hamilton had a gunshot wound to the neck.

According to Holt, the condition of Hamilton was unknown as of press-time Thursday.

Hamilton and Floyd were both at 603 Bruster St. when the shooting occurred, according to Holt. The homeowner, Troy Henry, said he left his residence at 9:20 p.m. and returned home around 9:36 p.m. to find Floyd on the porch, according to the report. Henry told the officers that he did not touch the body and had only been home for a few seconds before the EPD arrived.

During the investigation, the suspect was identified as Derrick A. Dixon, 39, of El Dorado. Dixon was taken into custody by the EPD at 603 Nelson St., according to Holt.

Dixon is currently being held with no bond at the Union County Sheriff’s Office jail. He is awaiting his first appearance before the Union County District Court judge at 1:30 p.m. today. He is facing charges of capital murder, first-degree battery, possession of a firearm by certain persons and criminal attempted murder.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” said Holt. “We are actively pursuing leads.”
